The 7th Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety, held in Manila, Philippines (3–4 April 2025), was organized by the Philippine Department of Health with support from the World Health Organization (WHO). Under the theme “Weaving Strengths for the Future of Patient Safety Throughout the Health-care Continuum,” the event brought together delegates from 64 countries, along with experts, health professionals, and patient representatives 🤝🌐 to explore key gaps highlighted in the Global Patient Safety Report 2024.
Throughout the discussions, participants emphasized the need to accelerate progress on the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030 📈. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros reaffirmed that patient safety must remain a non-negotiable priority in every health system 🛡️, reinforcing the urgency of coordinated global action.
The Summit concluded with the adoption of the Mandaluyong Declaration 📜, calling for renewed commitment and collective responsibility to make patient safety a universal imperative and a cornerstone of resilient, equitable, and people-centred healthcare systems 💙.
Continuing the series that began in London in 2016, the Manila Summit built on earlier milestones to strengthen political engagement, foster collaboration, and promote innovation and shared learning across countries 🌎✨. It highlighted once more the importance of transforming global policy into practical action capable of reducing preventable harm and improving health outcomes worldwide.
